However, one place that is not commercialized and is very authentic is belize. there are GORGEOUS islands that you can have completely to yourself all you have to do is hire a boat to take you which is very simple. Another place that is in the caribbean even though i'ts off of mexico is cozumel, mexico. there are mayan ruins and many cool things to visit, hope i could help!<br><b>References : </b><br> i took a trip to the caribbean and many places are flooded with tourists. If you want to be on your own - not at an all-inclusive, there's little outdoor restaurants with lights strung up at night to welcome you in. Plenty of small shops for souvenirs and local crafts and artwork. Stores all along the promenade with 'island' type clothes. the beach is there if you want it but there's plenty else to do. There's great seafood restaurants and bars too.
